One of the great winners in this recent, glorious period in FC Barcelona’s history, is Xavi Hernández. The midfielder leaves the club he has been at all his life with a knapsack full of trophies. Actually, he could really do with a lorry to take all the ones he has won while wearing the azulgrana shirt. This Champions League makes it 25, yes, twenty-five, major titles that Xavi has won in his illustrious Barça career, to which he can add two Euros, a U-20 World Cup, and the 2010 World Cup with La Roja. This treasure trove has been earned with many hours of dedicated hard work, and practically always with him in the starting eleven

An unrepeatable player is leaving. A true maestro, whose conductor’s wand is glued to his right boot and has allowed him to direct players of the calibre of Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Ibrahimovic, Messi, Figo, Eto’o, all of them stars and all of them who found in Xavi the one best able to interpret their football.

For his last service, Xavi was only on the pitch for fifteen minutes, enough to hold Barça’s advantage and then increase it in the dying seconds against Juventus, in the Champions League final. You couldn’t wish for a much better ending than that.
