Team Mercedes are not dwelling on what happened in the Malaysian GP, preferring to see it as a wake-up call and a chance to bounce back stronger. For the first time in several months, Mercedes showed serious weaknesses and Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel were able to take advantage of them. The team members have met with the two drivers to look at what happened in Malaysia and to prepare for the China GP. This is a departure from the normal practice; the drivers usually prepare the race separately.

Niki Lauda, the non-executive president of Team Mercedes has it all quite clear: “This time we werre all there. We analysed the Malaysia race as a group and we are now perfectly equipped for China. We all have to pull together to beat Ferrari and Vettel and not to have to fight against any other team.”

Despite missing out on a win in Malaysia, there are no alarm bells ringing at Mercedes and nobody sees any reason to panic. They admit that maybe they will have to fight another team for the title this year but they are confident as, at the end of the day, this is quite normal in this sport.
