Luis Enrique, in the press conference after the game against Atlético de Madrid, acknowledged that his team had not played at their best and that there was room for improvement: “It wasn’t one of our best games. We always want to go on the attack but our opponents were good today. In the second half we wanted to put the game to bed, but we read it badly. We were unable to play well against ten and also against nine later on. There is a lot of room for improvement, but I am happy with my players because they knew how to dig in.”

He was blunt, and a little distant, when asked about the initial stages of the game, that were very similar to those against Málaga and Athletic in the Copa del Rey against Athletic: “That’s football.” He refused to give any further details as to why his team appeared to be disconnected and went behind.

Luis Enrique explained his reaction when Luis Filipe went in on Messi, and earned himself a red card: “You saw how I reacted? So you know what my thoughts were. I was shocked by it.”
