Benítez’s situation, and club leak that Cristiano, Bale, Benzema, James, Isco could all leave…
Half of Europe eye Madrid’s stars
The problems between Rafa Benítez, the club itself and some Real Madrid players have aroused the interest of Europe’s top clubs, who hope to “hook” some of the stars from the Real Madrid “fishing ground”. The most-prized capture would be that of Cristiano Ronaldo, who could leave for Paris Saint-Germain or return to his beloved Manchester United. His departure would be one of the most expensive operations in the history of football, and would mark the end of an era at Real Madrid.
But Ronaldo is not the only target. In the Premier League there has been much talk about the return of Bale, the UK player with the highest profile and the most coveted, and the only one who is considered among the best in the world. Manchester United already made an offer for him last season and could come in for him again next summer, hoping to seduce the Welshman with the style of play in the Premier League and to take advantage of his relatively poor showing in Spain.
The third on the list, who has also been linked with Manchester United, is James Rodríguez. Many see him as a potential Ballon d’Or winner, a true number 10, one to build a team around. His bad relationship with Benítez, the leaks about him supposedly being overweight and the role he has been given in the team have annoyed the Colombian. PSG and Arsenal would also love to get him.
That said, anyone who wishes to capture any one of these three “trophies” would have to put together over €100 million to sign them and have a hefty sum available for the player’s salary over a five-year deal.
Benzema’s case is different, as his departure from the club would be the result of a hypothetical guilty sentence in the “sex-tape affair“. If this were to happen, Real Madrid and the buyer club would face negotiations that are somewhat different from the usual ones.
Kroos is the midfielder that many teams dream of having. His dip in form and the problems he has with Rafa Benítez (Schuster said that Benítez “had thrown him under the bus”) could force him out of the door. Real Madrid have a good stock of midfielders and the sale of the German could be a profitable operation as the Blancos prised him away from Bayern Munich for only €25 million.
He is another artist who has a name throughout Europe, and has been linked with Juventus on several occasions. The Málaga-born player has not managed to earn a regular place in the starting eleven and, although he won over the fans in his first season, he has also been on the receiving end of boos and whistles, blamed for slowing down attacking moves because of his tendency to hold on to the ball for too long. Isco, on the other hand, feels that he has never played in his ideal position, that he has been given too many defensive duties and that they have not shown enough faith in him by not giving him more responsibilities.
The academy product has always dreamed of making it big at Real Madrid, the club he has always loved. But if he feels he is not going to get the opportunities he wants, he might choose to put himself on the market. The Canary islander has had injuries and various ups and downs, but he is one of the most interesting and promising young players in Europe and more than one club might be prepared to take a gamble on him. His agent has stated it bluntly: “What he needs is to play more, he has to play more because that is what boosts players’ morale. It’s very complicated and for that reason the club will have to take a decision.”
He has less of a name than the above-mentioned players, but he is able to play in several attacking roles in any team and has many qualities that are highly valued: speed, a good shot, the ability to dribble and to score. He has already gained good experience playing for Villarreal and Real Madrid, and could be seen as a bargain given his quality. Several teams have shown interest in him, Valencia, for starters. Getting himself in the eye of the media has also aroused the interest of several Premier League clubs, who may be interested in signing him or at least taking him on loan. Arsenal and Manchester United would not look disfavourably on bringing him in, but they are not the only English teams interested.
