Carlo Ancelloti‘s representative, Ernesto Bronzzeti, has said that “Rafa Benítez is 99% certain to go to Real Madrid.” In addition, Napoli have announced a joint press conference with Benítez and the club president Aurelio de Larentiis. Everything seems to indicate that the madrileño is set to be Real Madrid’s next coach, to be announced next week by Florentino Pérez. But for that to happen, the club will have to accept the conditions that Benítez has set.

There are three important points on the table in the negotiations between Benítez’s representative, García Quilón and Real Madrid, according to the sports daily, As: Benítez wants closer control over the team, power of decision over signings and to restructure and oversee the development squad following his guidelines and with coaching staff that he trusts.

On the one hand, he wants to take part in decisions on signings, for which he would need to have a close relationship with Florentino Pérez to build the squad.

Regarding his back-room staff, he wants to bring in the fitness coach, Paco de Miguel, the goalkeeper coach Xavi Valero and the analyst Antonio Gómez. Reports from Italy also suggest he would like to bring the current Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon with him as well.

Benítez is also obsessive about the development squad, as he has shown at every club where he has worked, and wants to be able to promote promising youngsters to the first team. He would therefore ask for overall control of ‘La Fábrica’. At the moment, however, there is no-one who can take that decision owing to the man in charge, Ramón Martínez, currently being off on sick leave, As informs.

Rafa Benítez works in a careful, methodical and meticulous way and likes to control every facet of the job, always working with people he trusts. He has worked in this way at every other club and it would be no different at Real Madrid.

For the moment, he is biding his time at the hotel where he lives with his back-room staff, waiting for Quilón and Real Madrid to reach an agreement.
