David Beckham has been in Madrid, to present an exclusive brand of whisky, and he looked back at his best times as a Real Madrid player. “I spent a lot of time at Madrid and can’t choose just one. Maybe the best was when I showed up in the dressing room for the first time and met Raúl, Zidane, Ronaldo, Figo and Roberto Carlos. That was a special moment. I also remember well winning the La Liga title, that was exciting.”

The former player also explained why he did not continue at Real Madrid. “I signed for four years and was in conversations with Florentino Pérez to extend my contract for a further four. When he left there was no agreement with the new president.” he explained, implicitly blaming Ramón Calderón, who took over from the now current Blanco boss.

Asked about  Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal-scoring record, Beckham congratulated the Portuguese player, before putting Raúl, with whom he has a great friendship, on a pedestal. “What Cristiano has achieved in his career is incredible. As a fan it’s amazing to see a player like that in your team, to see how he plays, the passion he works with every day. It’s amazing to see how he was able to beat my friend Raúl’s record so quickly. Because, for me, Raúl is a God.”
