El exjugador del Real Madrid critica la actuación ante el Wolfsburgo

Real Madrid‘s defeat at the hands of Wolfsburg gave rise to all manner of blasts in the international press, but also within the Madridista‘ ranks. The former Blanco player Amancio Amaro, a winner of nine La Liga titles and a European Cup with Real Madrid -among other titles- blasted the players, who he accused of the thumping at the hands of the German side: “You get the feeling that some players were more worried about the way their hair looked than the being in the game” Amancio said on the ‘Fútbol es radio’ programme. “This really gets on my nerves. It reminds me of a case in my playing days, a player who even after losing got in front of the mirror and spend would ten minutes combing his hair”, he added.

The Galician former footballer did not stop at that, and condemned the attitude of the players: “Sometimes you think the game is won just because you’ve put on your bow tie, but it has been shown many times that either you put on your overalls and focus on the job in hand, or you get a smack in the teeth, even though your opponents are nothing to write home about. The rivals did not have a lot to them, althought they were clearly not a bunch of cripples, and if you let them have the chances they were given, then they come at you on the break in a way you never thought they would.”

Amancio called for one of Madrid’s famous comebacks, but not without saying beforehand that they “let Juanito rest in peace” and sending another ‘reminder’ to the players: “You can expect anything and everything of Real Madrid, but it’s clear that right now nobody understands what the European Cup means and what is needed to win it, to compete and to be in the place that this club deserves to be in.”
