As long as he lives, Juanfran will remember his fierce, right-footed strike from the edge of the Barcelona to score at the Camp Nou in the Copa del Rey. It was a great goal. A goal that injected a little excitement into the game between the all-powerful reigning champions and the minnows from Villanueva de la Serena, who play in Segunda B, Spain’s third tier, and who had come to Barcelona with hopes after managing a 0-0 draw in the first-leg clash.

Juanfran’s goal made it 2-1, and opened up the possibility of a giant-killing act, even though Dani Alves and Sandro had already scored for the Azulgranas. A second goal without reply would have put the visitors through. The joy was short-lived however. Two minutes, in fact, no more and no less. That was how long it took Barcelona to thread another move together and for Sandro to complete his brace.

That was the scenario when half time arrived, and the game was pretty much done and dusted by then. The second half gave Munir the chance to take a weight off himself, as he had gone a whole year without scoring, as it did Sandro, his team-mate, who took the match-ball home after scoring a third in the final stages of the clash. Munir made it six and thus put an end to a slightly demanding training session for the hosts, who are now through to the next round of the Copa del Rey.

Barcelona, 6; Villanovense, 1
